Green Flag Award

6th July 2023

We are proud and delighted to announce that Caldecott Secondary School has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award.

The Green Flag Award, run by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities, was set up as a benchmark standard to recognise “well-managed parks and green spaces” (as described on its website).

Our Eco Club at Caldecott School, made up of passionate volunteer students and supported by a member of staff, cares deeply about the local environment. They have spent the last eighteen months working towards Green Flag status, focusing on the areas of Waste, Healthy Living, and Biodiversity. They have been involved in such activities as;

Biodiversity:- Hosting guest speakers and getting involved in trips to learn more about this important topic, as well as planting bee- and butterfly-friendly flowers around the site. Waste: Doing litter picks and collecting metal recycling which can help improve the local environment.

Healthy Living: Planting fruits and vegetables around the school. The Award citation noted the Eco Club’s hard work and dedication, as well as their success in linking the curriculum to environmental topics.

Caldecott School’s Headteacher, Stacey McShane, said, “We’re so proud of our Eco Club getting us the Green Flag Award. It’s a testament to their hard work, and the commitment of everyone involved in supporting and developing our local environment.”

Our sincere thanks to the Green Flag scheme, and we’re very excited about we’ll be able to do next year!
