Eco Council

18th July 2022

Children and young people are often passionately inquisitive about the big questions in life, including those that are related to our planet; climate change, recycling, littering, biodiversity, and many more. Students at Caldecott School are no different, and a group of students have formed an Eco Council to promote a positive environmental message in the school.

Our Eco Council regularly take part in Forest School and Land-Based Study lessons, and have even met with the Caldecott Foundation’s chief executive, Nick Barnett, to propose solar panels to help with energy costs and making the School more energy efficient. Nick was very impressed with their presentation and agrees that energy efficiency is important.

The Eco Council have an action plan for the School, and are working towards the Green Flag Award. They have chosen three areas to focus on;

  • Waste
  • Healthy Living
  • Biodiversity

The Eco Council recently visited the Singleton Environment Centre in Ashford, and what a brilliant experience for all of them. They were able to learn about biodiversity, decorate some insect boxes that they have brought back to the School, and also met the Mayor of Ashford!

Our Eco Council is a vital part of the School, and we are proud of them!
